Sponsorship Policy

1. Information

Aims of Labour Digital:

  1. To equip Labour parliamentarians and members with the knowledge necessary to assess the implications for politics and society of the fourth industrial revolution.

  2. To promote technological innovations which have the potential to improve the delivery of public services in the UK

  3. To promote reasonable regulation of the digital sector in the UK wherever necessary

  4. To open a dialogue between the Labour party and the digital sector in the UK

2. ROLE OF SPONSORSHIP

Our work is driven solely by our Officers and Members; as such, any sponsors cannot dictate our views or activities.

As a non-profit endeavour, Labour Digital relies on financial support from sponsors and donors to facilitate our programs, and to enable us to provide the opportunity for paid internships which support our volunteer executive committee.

Thus, we seek opportunities to work together with external organisations to achieve shared objectives, particularly in working towards the development of responsible and progressive digital and technology policy in the UK, and in ensuring that there is a thriving digital and technology policy conversation within the Labour movement.

Labour Digital seeks, so far as is practical and within the constraints of UK law;

  • Initiatives that further the aims of Labour Digital where these aims intersect with those of like-minded organisations

  • Initiatives that do not compromise the independent status of Labour Digital

  • To ensure that the activities of organisations we work with are consistent with our organisational values

It is vital that we maintain our independence and do not allow external partnerships to bring the name of Labour Digital into disrepute. In working with sponsors and partners, Labour Digital at all times retains strict editorial and content independence in the work and research that is produced.

Acceptance of sponsorship of Labour Digital does not imply any form of endorsement of the sponsor’s products or services by Labour Digital, or by the Labour Party.

3. AVOIDANCE CRITERIA

Partnerships with companies involved in any of the following activities will be avoided:

  • Accepting sponsorship from any company banned from the Parliamentary estate

  • Anonymous donations over the disclosure amount

  • Any other activities that could serve to bring Labour Digital into disrepute

4. PROCESS

All sponsorships with a value of more than £1,500 must be approved by the Executive Committee of Labour Digital.

Where sponsors have contributed to a specific program, their involvement will be clearly marked in order to maintain transparency.

Agreements with partners must permit Labour Digital to withdraw from any partnership where new developments mean that areas of this ethical sponsorship policy become breached.

5. TRANSPARENCY

A full list of corporate sponsors giving over £7,500 will be maintained on our website.

Labour Digital will communicate its commitment to this policy to the organisation's stakeholders, and a copy of this policy will be displayed on our website.

This policy has been devised to ensure clarity and openness to all our stakeholders. It is designed to address sponsorship and partnerships. We welcome comments, criticism and suggestions as to how these goals can be met.

6. GUIDELINES

We will allow multi-year sponsors.

We will seek to have a range of views at each event including from the charity and private sector as well as diversity in gender, race, age, sexuality and ability.
